Based on standard fine table salt.
This calculator provides a quick conversion between the weight of salt in grams (g) and its volume in teaspoons (tsp) and tablespoons (tbsp). It's a useful tool for cooking and baking when precise measurements are required.
Conversion Formulas
The calculation is based on the standard density of fine table salt:
- 1 teaspoon (tsp) = 5.69 grams (g)
- 1 tablespoon (tbsp) = 3 teaspoons (tsp)
Example
If a recipe calls for 20 grams of salt, you can enter 20 into the 'Grams' field. The calculator will compute the equivalent volume (20 g ÷ 5.69 g/tsp ≈ 3.51 tsp) and display the most convenient measurement, which is 1 tbsp + 0.5 tsp.
Note: This conversion is accurate for fine table salt. Coarser salts like kosher or sea salt have a different density and will yield a different result.
