Operation Symbols in the Calculator:
- Addition: +
- Subtraction: —
- Multiplication: x * • ·
- Division: / :
- Exponentiation: ^ **
These symbols can be entered via the keyboard or by clicking the buttons below the input field.
Auto-convert Mixed Fractions:
When the “Auto-convert mixed fractions to improper fractions on input” option is enabled, the calculator automatically converts mixed fractions (with a whole part) into improper fractions for calculations. For example, if you enter 1 1/3, it will be converted to (4/3).
If this option is disabled, spaces are ignored in the calculator, and 1 1/3 will be calculated as 11/3. In this case, you should enter the fraction as (1+1/3).
What Does It Mean to Find the Value of an Expression?
Finding the value of an expression means performing the mathematical operations specified in the expression to obtain a specific numerical value as the result. For example, given the mathematical expression “2 + 3 • 4”, finding the value of this expression means performing the multiplication of 3 by 4, then adding the result to 2, which gives a final result of 14.
Finding the value of an expression involves transforming mathematical symbols and operations into a numerical answer. For complex expressions or sequential operations, finding the value requires correctly performing all steps of the mathematical calculations.
Key Features of the Expression Calculator:
- The calculator allows performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponentiation, and using parentheses to set operation priorities.
- Users can enter long and complex mathematical expressions with multiple operations and variables for quick calculation.
- Users can choose the number of decimal places to round the result to, from whole numbers to 15 decimal places.
- The option to select the display format of the result — standard decimal or exponential notation for large or small numbers.
- Input is automatically checked for correctness during entry, helping to prevent incorrect calculations and speeding up the process of working with the calculator.
- When pasting entire expressions, the calculator automatically recognizes and replaces some mathematical operations:
- “multiply by” is replaced with the “×” sign, e.g., 3.3 multiply by 3.3 becomes 3.3 × 3.3
- “by” is replaced with the “×” sign, e.g., 5 by 5 becomes 5 × 5
- “divide by” is replaced with the “:” sign, e.g., 8 divide by 8 becomes 8 : 8
- “minus” is replaced with the “-” sign, e.g., 1 minus 1 becomes 1 — 1
- “subtract” is replaced with the “-” sign, e.g., 8 subtract 3 becomes 8 — 3
- “plus” is replaced with the “+” sign, e.g., 2 plus 2 becomes 2 + 2
- “add” is replaced with the “+” sign, e.g., 12 add 2 becomes 12 + 2
