kW = V × A × power factor ÷ 1000. For DC or purely resistive loads use PF = 1; for AC motors use ~0.8.
Common mistake
Forgetting the power factor. A 230 V × 10 A motor at PF 0.8 delivers 1.84 kW, not 2.3 kW — apparent power (kVA) and real power (kW) differ for AC loads.

Single-phase and three-phase power use different formulas
For DC, use PF = 1. For single-phase AC, this calculator uses P = U × I × PF ÷ 1000; for example, 230 V × 16 A at PF = 0.8 gives about 2.94 kW. For a balanced three-phase system, when U is the line-to-line voltage, use P = √3 × U × I × PF ÷ 1000; at 400 V, 16 A and PF = 0.8 that is about 8.87 kW. The Schneider Electric power-calculation guide uses the same single- and three-phase relationships. Do not apply the single-phase formula to a three-phase line voltage.
