in³ = width(in) × length(in) × height(in). Convert other units to inches first (ft × 12, cm ÷ 2.54).
Common mistake
Mixed units. A 1 ft × 12 in × 12 in box is 12×12×12 = 1728 in³, not 1×12×12 = 144 in³ — convert the foot to inches first.
