Calculate square meters from length and width, convert meters to m² with a known width, or find linear meters from an area.
A meter is a length and m² is an area. Width is required for either direction.

Calculation
5 m × 4 m = 20 m²
5 m × 4 m = 20 m²
Can meters be converted directly to square meters?
No. A meter measures length, while m² measure area. You must also know the width. The formula is area = length × width.
Examples
5 m × 4 m = 20 m². A 10 m long strip that is 0.6 m wide covers 6 m². To find linear meters, divide the area by the known width.
What is one square meter?
It is the area of a square measuring 1 m × 1 m. The calculator does not include material waste, pack sizes or price.
