Calculator surface area of the pipe (cylinder)

Calculate the lateral surface area of a pipe (cylinder) from its outside diameter and length. A 0.1 m diameter, 6 m long pipe has 1.885 m² of surface — used for paint, insulation and heat-transfer estimates.

How to calculate pipe surface area

A = π × D × L (lateral surface, ends excluded). For both circular ends, add 2 × π × D² ÷ 4.

Common mistake

Using the radius instead of the diameter. The lateral area formula uses diameter × length × π; doubling the radius gives the diameter.
