m³ to m² requires thickness. At 10 cm thickness, 1 m³ covers 10 m².
Cubic metres to square metres
Calculate how much surface area a given volume of material will cover at a selected thickness.
Material volume
for example, concrete or screed
Enter a volume greater than zero.
Enter the available material volume. For example, enter 2 and select m³ to calculate the area covered by 2 cubic metres.
Layer thickness
Enter a thickness greater than zero.
Enter the layer thickness in the selected unit. For example, 5 cm = 0.05 m, so 2 m³ ÷ 0.05 m = 40 m².
Quick material presets:
Covered area
—m²
The result is calculated using
A = V ÷ h, where V is the volume in m³ and h is the thickness in metres. The calculator also shows cost, usable coverage after waste, weight and unit conversions.Cost estimate
$ / m³
Select $ / m³ when the supplier quotes a price per cubic metre. Select $ / m² when the material is sold by area.

Waste allowance
When the entered volume already includes extra material for waste, the usable coverage is lower. The calculator divides the theoretical area by the selected waste factor.
Material weight
Weight is calculated using
mass = volume × density. Use the density stated in the material specifications whenever possible.

Formula
Area m² = volume m³ ÷ thickness in meters. Volume m³ = area m² × thickness in meters.
Common mistake
Cubic meters and square meters are different dimensions, so there is no conversion without thickness.
