Face Cord Firewood Calculator

Convert a face cord or rick to cubic feet and full cords using the stack’s actual depth.

Full-cord equivalent

Why depth is required

A face cord normally shows a 4 × 8 foot face, but its depth follows the firewood piece length and may be 12, 16, 18, 24 inches or another size. That is why “one face cord” is not a fixed fraction unless depth is stated.

Conversion formula

Stacked cubic feet = face length × face height × piece depth in feet. Divide that volume by 128 for the full-cord equivalent. For example, an 8 × 4 foot face with 16-inch pieces is 42.67 ft³, or one-third of a standard cord.

Purchase check

Ask the seller for the exact piece length and stack dimensions. Measure the delivered stack rather than relying only on the words “rick” or “face cord.”
